A is for Accountability

I seriously considered doing this post on Alabama. I mean, what other state has "BAM" smack dab in the middle of their name? But seeing as I know absolutely nothing about Alabama, I went the safe route and chose another A word. What is it?

Accountability. It seems like a dirty word in today's society (politicians, anyone?), but it is necessary to living a happy, healthy life. Being accountable means being "subject to the obligation to report, explain or justify something (source)." It means taking responsibility for your actions.

Personally, I need to be accountable for getting down to a healthy weight. I got married and went to college in the same year, so I gained both "love chub" and the freshman 15. Lucky me. Then I got pregnant. Now that I'm on the other side of that mountain, I don't want to be squishy anymore.

Unfortunately, I have a bit of an "extremist" personality. If I could just eat nothing and exercise all day long, I would. But ... that's not healthy. And now I have someone else relying on me for their health, too.

So, what's the plan? After much research on the Internet and a good amount of prayer, I have the following healthy, non-extremist goals:

  • Lose a maximum of 2 pounds a week. According to various resources on the Internet, losing more than 2 pounds a week can cause toxins to be released into your breast milk. Not good. So, about 2 pounds a week it is.
  • Eat about 1,800 calories per day with one "free day" each week.
  • Exercise five times a week. This includes walking to work and walking the dogs with baby, doing a Bar Method DVD Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and doing yoga Wednesday and on the weekends (if I have time). This plan may change as I get stronger.
  • Weigh myself weekly a la The Biggest Loser and take waist and hip measurements.
  • Stay accountable by posting about it once a week
My goal weight is 130 pounds. Right now, I'm at 151. If all goes according to plan, I will be looking and feeling great by October 8.

In the end, it's not about being skinny. It's about being healthy. That's the primary goal. Thanks for helping me be accountable! Tune in next week for a post about big b-e-a-utiful B!

From A 2 Z for U & Me!

Patty Wysong over at Ordinary Lives has come up with a great meme. I'm a little late out of the gate (rhyme!), but you gotta start some time, right?

Anyway, the theme of the meme (rhyme! again!) is From A 2 Z for U & Me. Each week I will feature something that begins with a letter of the alphabet. I figured this would be a great kick off for {walker whimsy} since I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing!

Look out for a post about something that starts with A soon. Could it be Aardvark? Abacus? Alabama? Apple tree? You will just have to wait and see (sorry, couldn't resist : )

Signing off,

This blog will feature the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Join me as I chronicle the wonderful weirdness of the Walker clan.
