Crochet Camera Strap Cover {POTM}

Hayyyyy!

It's finally (FINALLY) finished!

I apologize for the, ahem, 11 day lateness of this post. I made one, hated it, and had to start over. Then the kidlets got sick and my life turned into a haze of recliner naps and medicine and snotty noses.

Everyone's back to their happy (albeit "NOT SLEEPY, MOM") selves now and life is returning to its normal chaotic pace.

Sooooo, without further ado, here ya go!

I used a G hook. If you tend to crochet tighter or looser you can use a different size hook as needed.

Color A = Caron Baby Acrylic in White
Color B = Red Heart Soft in Black
The orange and turquoise are Red Heart Super Saver yarns. I'm not positive of the proper color names.

I used acrylic yarn so the camera strap cover wouldn't be all hot and scratchy during the summer. Cotton would be a nice alternative if you're not a big fan of acrylics.

Abbreviations
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
tc = treble crochet

Some tips
- crochet over ends when you change colors
- weave in and tie off ends as you go so you don't have to flip the whole thing inside out later
- use a stitch marker in the first sc of each round (I use a safety pin)
- working "in the round" means you don't join with a slip stitch at the end of each row; you keep going in a continuous spiral

Ze Pattern

For the strap cover:

With color A, ch 20. Join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 1. Sc in each sc.  Continue in the round to fifteen rows.

Join color B. Sc in each sc in the round to fifteen rows.

Join color A. Sc in each sc in the round to fifteen rows.

Join color B. Sc in each sc in the round to thirty rows (this is the center of the camera strap cover).

Join color A. Sc in each sc in the round to fifteen rows.

Join color B. Sc in each sc in the round to fifteen rows.

Join color A. Sc in each sc in the round to fifteen rows.

Finish off. Weave in ends.

For the scallops (if desired):

Work one row of sc around in the color of your choice (I did turquoise). Join second color (in my case orange) *Skip 1 stitch, 5 DC in next stitch. Skip 1 stitch, sl st in next stitch.* Repeat from * to * around. End with a slip stitch.

Finish off and weave in ends.

For the lens cap holder:

Begin with a magic adjustable ring. Ch 3, 15 dc in ring. Join.
Ch 3, dc in same stitch. 2 dc in each dc around. Join.
Ch 1. Sc in each dc around. Join.

Finish off and weave in ends.

Make two of these circles. Whip stitch them around the bottom half. (I ended up joining about 20 stitches so it would be nice and snug).

For the flower embellishment:

I winged it and completely forgot to write down the pattern : P. I think this is how I did it, however.

Begin with a magic adjustable ring. Ch 3, 18 dc in ring. Join.
With second color, *skip 1 stitch, 5 DC in next stitch. Skip 1 stitch, sl st in next stitch.* Repeat from * to * around. End with a slip stitch.
For the second round of petals, ch 5. Join with a sl st to the sl st you made in the last round. Repeat from * to * until you have five ch-5 spaces.
In the next ch-5 space *sc, dc, 3 tc, dc, sc*. Repeat from * to * in each ch-5 space.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

Sew flower onto lens cap holder. Sew lens cap holder onto camera strap cover.

Voila!

  1. Thanks for this relatively simple yet pretty pattern. It delights with your color choices.
